Immersion week at FCCF!!

 

Felicia, her husband Jeff, daughter/and teacher Allie, and family friend Seth spent a week volunteering, teaching, playing, and getting to know the children and staff.

 

An exceptional team of 6 medical and dental professionals from Health Mission Africa visited our school.  Each child had a complete exam, and all were screened for typhoid, malaria, hepatitis, and HIV (all tested negative for all!)

 

  • The dental team came another day to give a presentation on oral hygiene education/tooth brushing
  • First Aid box/supplies purchased, as well as needed medications for some of the children for common/treatable illnesses
  • All children given deworming meds- this will continue every 3 months/ cost covered by the Tanzanian government
  • Additional $ allocated for food to add a nutritious protein “peanut butter” ball snack to the school meal plan as suggested by the doctors to continue to improve the health of our children
  • Printer and paper purchased for operations staff
  • General cleaning/kitchen supplies purchased, such as buckets, mops, rubber gloves, garbage bags, and plastic bins to organize classroom materials and to make “cubbies” for the children’s personal items and schoolwork to bring home
  • 10 classroom bookcases built onsite by Jeff, Seth, Frank and Joel Laizer (Ruth’s son’s)
  • Extra food purchase for a Fourth of July celebration for students, staff, the Laizer family, and all of us!
  • All supplies that were hand-carried by us were organized in the classrooms on the bookcases
